Now in the market, for switchable product, we can see they have switchable film and swithcable glass. But some may not understand the difference.
In fact, PDLC smart film(or switchable film) is made of two layers of transparent conductive coating films sandwiched with polymer dispersed liquid crystal material.By applying or removing electric field to drive the liquid crystal molecules in aligned or disordered array, Smart PDLC film can realizes transparent or opaque effect. And switchable smart glass is to sandwich the pdlc smart film into two layer of glass, usually using EVA film to bond them together. The combination usually as Glass+ EVA Film+ PDLC Film + EVA Film + Glass, as below diagram.
You can also see below a video about how to combine the 5 layers materials together. After this is finished, you can put the whole combination into lamination oven or furnace to do the vacuum lamination.
Here is the lamination curve for lamination with 5mm ordinary glass, the EVA film thickness is about 0.38mm or 0.4mm.(Different EVA film the lamination curve may different.)
Here is the lamination curve for lamination with 5mm tempered glass, the EVA film thickness is about 0.76mm or 0.8mm. Due to tempered glass surface is not as flat as ordinary, it’s better using thicker EVA film in case bubbles happens after the lamination.(Different EVA film the lamination curve may different.)
After this lamination finished, then the smart glass is made.
